What to expect

Impressions and shade matching (visit 1, 60 minutes)
Impressions of both arches, plus tooth shade and shape selection with Dr. Patel.

Bite records (visit 2, 45 minutes)
Wax rims record how your jaws meet so the lab can set the teeth to your bite.

Try-in (visit 3, 45 minutes)
You wear a wax try-in version and check the look and fit in a mirror. The lab revises anything you want changed before the final denture is made.

Delivery and follow up (visit 4, 45 minutes)
The finished denture is seated and refined at the chair. A follow up visit 1 to 2 weeks later addresses any sore spots.
Is a denture right for you?
- You are missing most or all teeth in one arch, or extractions are already planned.
- A partial denture needs enough healthy remaining teeth to anchor its clasps.
- Gums need 6 to 8 weeks of healing after extractions before a conventional denture is fitted; an immediate denture can bridge that gap.
- Implant-retained overdentures require enough jawbone for 2 to 4 implants, confirmed with an X-ray.
- A denture older than 5 to 7 years often needs a reline or replacement as the jaw changes shape.

How long do dentures last?
Typically 5 to 7 years. The jawbone slowly changes shape under a denture, so plan on a reline every 2 to 3 years and a remake when the fit no longer holds.
Will I be able to eat normally?
Expect a 2 to 4 week learning period. Start with soft foods cut small, chew on both sides, and work up from there. Implant-retained dentures hold more chewing force than conventional ones.
Should I sleep in my dentures?
No. Remove them at night, brush them, and soak them in water or a denture solution so your gums get a rest.
What is an immediate denture?
A denture placed the same day as your extractions so you never leave without teeth. It needs a reline after the gums heal, usually at 6 to 8 weeks.
